SeaCollect

Terms of Use

Last updated October 16, 2026

These terms cover your use of SeaCollect, a research tool run by SEA Lab at Columbia University. By creating an account or using SeaCollect, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy.

Who can use SeaCollect

You must be at least 18 years old. If you take part in a study, its consent form decides who may join it.

Your account

Give accurate information, keep your password to yourself, and email sea.lab.space@gmail.com if you think someone else has used your account.

Your data

Your readings remain yours. You let SEA Lab store and process them to run SeaCollect for you, as the Privacy Policy describes. You decide which devices and accounts to connect and which studies to join, and you can remove your data or delete your account at any time.

Studies

Taking part in a study is voluntary. Each study's consent form explains what it collects, how it uses your data and how to leave. Where a consent form and these terms differ, the consent form applies.

Researchers

If you run a study on SeaCollect, you agree to use participants' data only for that study as approved by your Institutional Review Board, to keep it confidential, and to follow your institution's policies and applicable law.

Not medical care

SeaCollect shows readings from consumer devices, which can be wrong or incomplete. It does not give medical advice or diagnose anything, and nobody watches your readings as they arrive. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.

Connected services

Accounts you connect, such as Google Health or Garmin, are run by other companies under their own terms. SeaCollect may stop being able to collect data from a service if that service changes or ends its access.

Acceptable use

Do not try to access data that is not yours, disrupt or probe SeaCollect's systems, upload harmful files, or use SeaCollect for anything unlawful. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.

No warranty

SeaCollect is research software. We may change, pause or end it, and it is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, SEA Lab and Columbia University are not liable for any loss arising from your use of SeaCollect.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Updates are posted on this page with a new date. Continued use of SeaCollect means you accept the current terms.
