SeaCollect

How SeaCollect works

SeaCollect keeps the readings from your phone, watch and health apps in one account of your own. Study teams use it to collect the readings people choose to share with them.

Your own data

All of this works without ever joining a study.

Readings come in from a paired phone or an uploaded export, land in your account under the device that recorded them, and show up as charts. A study you take part in sees all of it.

Pair your phone

Keeps new readings coming without you doing anything. You pair once per phone and can disconnect it at any time; readings that already arrived stay.

Pair a phone on Devices
  1. 1

    Show a code

Here, with your phone at hand. It hides itself after an hour, so nobody can copy it later.

  2. 2

    Scan it in the app

Open the SeaCollect app on your phone and point it at the code.

  3. 3

    Allow Health access

So the app can read what your phone and watch record.

  4. 4

    Readings arrive on their own

About every 15 minutes, for as long as the phone stays connected.

Upload an export

Brings in the history your phone or watch already holds, years of it at once.

Upload on Devices
  1. 1

    Export your history

From the Health app on iPhone, or Garmin's Export Your Data.

  2. 2

    Upload it here

A large file takes a few minutes. You can follow its progress.

  3. 3

    Filed by measure and device

Each reading keeps the name of the device that recorded it.

  4. 4

    Nothing counted twice

Upload the same file again and only new readings are added.

Read your charts

Every measure your devices send gets a chart on My data, with the newest reading of each on a tile above.

Average and range

The line is each day's average. The shading runs from the day's lowest reading to its highest.

A line per device

Two devices counting the same steps get two lines in one colour. They are never added together.

  • Heart rate
  • Steps
  • Sleep
  • Blood oxygen
  • Breathing rate
  • Weight
  • Blood pressure
  • Blood glucose

A colour per measure

Each measure keeps its colour on every page, in charts, tiles and guides alike.

Share with a study

A study that invites you says what it uses. Taking part shares all your readings with its lab's researchers; if you would rather not share something it uses, decline it. Declining, or leaving later, takes you out of the lab unless another of its studies includes you. Your readings stay in your account either way.

Running a study

For study teams, who sign in at the research door.

  1. Set upYour team

    Choose what the study collects.

  2. RecruitYour team

Add people by email and invite them.

  3. invitation email
  4. Open the linkEach participant

  5. Agree to take partEach participant

To all the study uses, or they decline.

  6. Pair a phoneEach participant

    Once, in the SeaCollect app.

  7. readings about every 15 min, only what they share
  8. CollectYour team

See who is sending, and who is stuck on what.

Your team sets the study up and sends the invitations. Each participant then takes three steps of their own, and their readings reach the study from there.

Know where everyone is

The roster gives every participant one status, and the status says what happens next. People move down this list; the two off to the side are where someone can get stuck.
